Successful Crop Combination

Earlier this year, I noticed my potato plants were growing dark spots on the leaves. After some research, the number one recommendation was to reuse a soil with a different crop rotation. Since potatoes are root crops, I should have used soil that had previously grew fruits or greens. Using the same type of crop soil for the same type of vegetable (in this case root crop) created soil born disease (dark spots). As a test decided to add Swiss Chard and Parsley (Green leaf crops) in the same pot as the potatoes (Root crop). I was pleasantly shocked to see the drastic improvement within a few weeks. All of the plants in this pot look fantastic, and even though it’s summer and a little warmer than usual, the shade cloth was a positive move in my test. The new born parsley show signs of vigor and the potatoes look lush. I’m excited for the next harvest!
